Jakarta, 7 June 2023 – Indonesia’s largest and most prestigious annual CSR award event, the Top CSR Awards 2023, was held on Wednesday, 7 June 2023, at the Raffles Hotel Jakarta.

During the awarding ceremony, PT Kaltim Nitrate Indonesia (PT KNI) successfully received the TOP CSR Awards 2023 #4-Star and TOP Leader on CSR Commitment 2023, the latter awarded to Twedy M. Nasution, President Director of PT KNI.

“It is an honor for us at PT Kaltim Nitrate Indonesia to receive an award in the TOP CSR Awards 2023 for the first time. The 4-Star rating awarded to KNI is proof of our company’s commitment to ensuring that all activities we undertake deliver meaningful benefits for social sustainability, particularly for the people of Bontang,” said Twedy.

PT KNI operates in the production of raw materials for explosives (Ammonium Nitrate). As such, the products manufactured by PT KNI fall under the category of hazardous materials and cannot be freely purchased by just anyone. For this reason, safety is the company’s top priority.

“Our mission is to uphold process safety and plant integrity to ensure long-term operational continuity, provide reliable facilities with high-quality products, implement strong process control, maintain an efficient supply chain, and foster the best operational culture and human resources,” said Rheza Zacharias, Government, Community Relations, and GA Dept Head.

In carrying out its CSR initiatives, PT KNI adopts the overarching theme of ‘Building an Empowered and Empowering Community.’ From a CSR policy and strategy perspective, PT KNI emphasizes the importance of creating value—optimizing existing resources while ensuring positive impact on social sustainability.

In addition, PT KNI carries out CSR strategies that align with and support the company’s business strategy. With regard to CSR governance, PT KNI promotes collaboration among stakeholders to participate in the community empowerment process. In this model, the community itself becomes the primary actor in the CSR programs.

“Jadi, sejak awal kita terjun ke masyarakat, kita menempatkan masyarakat itu sebagai aktor program. Kita libatkan mereka sejak awal, bagaimana mendorong masyarakat untuk mencetuskan ide, bukan apa yang mereka inginkan, tetapi apa yang dibutuhkan. Sehingga, apa yang menjadi kebutuhan prioritas, itulah yang pada akhirnya kita sepakati dan kita jalankan bersama. Keterlibatan (masyarakat) semuanya dari proses perencanaan, pelaksanaan, kemudian monitoring program serta evaluasi. Dengan harapan mereka menjadi mandiri, berdaya dan memberdayakan,” papar Wisnu Ahmaddin, selaku Comdev Specialist.

Untuk ajang Top CSR Awards 2023, tema yang diangkat untuk tahun  ini adalah “CSR Innovation Programs for Sustainable Business Growth”. Artinya CSR tidak hanya memberikan manfaat sosial untuk masyarakat dan lingkungan saja, namun CSR harus selaras dengan strategi bisnis, harus mendukung pencapaian target-target bisnis, agar kinerja perusahaan dapat terus tumbuh secara berkelanjutan.

Ajang penghargaan tahunan yang sudah diselenggarakan sejak tahun 2017 tersebut, diselenggarakan oleh Majalah Top Business, bekerja sama dengan sejumlah institusi seperti Perkumpulan Profesional Governansi Indonesia (PaGI); Asosiasi GRC Indonesia; Corebest (lembaga konsultan dan pelatihan CSR); LKN (Lembaga Kajian Nawacita); ISVI (Indonesia Shared Value Institute), Yayasan Pakem (Yayasan Pengembangan Keuangan Mikro); SDP (PT Sinergi Daya Prima/konsultan GCG); dan Solusi Kinerja Bisnis (SKB).
